Kevin's First Product: Raised Garden Beds

Kevin recounts how he started importing raised garden beds from Australia, facing unexpected logistics challenges.

"I started emailing this company from Australia maybe once or twice a quarter for like a year saying, 'Hey, can I get these? Can I somehow get these to America and sell them?' They kept saying no, they were already working with someone else. Then at the beginning of 2019, they emailed back asking if I was still interested.

I bought a 20-foot container of these raised beds for about $35,000, which was like half the money I had. When I asked what happens when they get to America, they said I had to receive it at the port, unpack it, and ship it out. I had no idea about commerce, so I tried to rent a storage facility out of a Costco, figuring out how to get it from the port to storage, and even looking up how to get internet in the storage facility to print labels.

I put up a really basic Shopify store and sold out all the beds in like 4 or 5 days while they were still getting to America. Then I used that money to buy another container. That's when I realized there was something really going on here."
