Target Predicts Teen Pregnancy

A story about how Target's purchase tracking system was so effective it identified a teenage pregnancy before her father knew.

"When you go to your major grocery store, you enter your phone number to get a discount. What they do with that is they understand your buying behavior. This was so effective that there's a famous story about a 16-year-old woman getting mailed baby supplies to her dad's home.

The dad was like, 'Hey, my daughter's 16, she's not pregnant, what are you talking about?' Turns out she was pregnant, and Target knew it because they could identify what people typically buy in their first month of pregnancy."
