Sanders Revolutionizes Colorado Football

A story about how Deion Sanders transformed Colorado's football program through radical honesty and a complete roster overhaul.

"Deion Sanders goes to Colorado, and in one of his first meetings with the team he says, 'I'm here to encourage most of you to quit.' The team had lost almost every game last year, going 1-11. He told them, 'The coaching staff is to blame, but you know who else is to blame? The kids. The coaching staff probably recruited a bunch of losers, and I'm here to get you losers to quit.'

When CNN questioned if this was too harsh for kids, Sanders responded, 'Well look, if you are willing to quit the team because I said that, you're probably weak and not an asset to this company. If you're gonna let words scare you, I need you out of here. I need the tough guys to stay and I need you to be an asset and not a liability.'

50 players left and went into the transfer portal. Sanders brought in 40 new players - half a football team roster. His philosophy was simple: 'Truth is good for the kids. This is what I'm here to teach you - football, how to live life, and be a good man. What you guys need is truth. I need to tell you the truth and prepare you for the real world.'"
