Mount Washington Family Test

Jesse Itzler shares a story about an extreme winter adventure with his friend Kevin and their children on Mount Washington.

"Kevin and I took our children - his daughter and my son (who was 8 at the time, his daughter was 9) to Mount Washington in the winter. It was -30 degrees with the windchill. We had a -40 sleeping bag and we're sleeping in the snow - it was insane.

We're camping out overnight and I said to Kevin, who's a police officer in New York, 'There's 8 billion people in the world, we're the only 4 people in the middle of Mount Washington. This is amazing.' I asked him how often he does stuff like this.

He lights up and says 'Every other month I do something one day or one weekend that I normally wouldn't have done.' He explained instead of watching the Georgia football game, he'll take his kids fishing, come to Mount Washington, or go visit college friends.

His reasoning was if he can't take one day every 8 weeks to do something different, his work-life is at an imbalance. But by doing this, he gets 6 little mini adventures a year. He explained that if you live to be 85, that's 50 years of adventures. If you do these two things, you'll have 50 year-defining things and 300 mini adventures. That's an insane life."
