Chahal's Misconduct Fundraising
Share
A story about Gurbaksh Chahal, a controversial tech entrepreneur who continued to raise money and run companies despite serious criminal allegations.
"This guy started in ad tech and sold his first company for $200 million. He went on Oprah, who praised him as an amazing bachelor. He was very successful at a young age and had a motivational presence on Instagram.
Things started going weird when he got caught on tape assaulting his girlfriend - he kicked her 127 times. He was fired as CEO of his company that was valued between $500 million to $1 billion. Even though there was video evidence, he got off because the footage was collected improperly. He was charged with kidnapping instead of assault.
After laying low for a bit, he came back with a new company called Gravity 4. He started aggressively acquiring companies in the ad tech space. In one case, he sabotaged a potential acquisition target by spreading fear to other bidders and getting Facebook to pull their access privileges. This forced the company into a fire sale, which he then bought for pennies on the dollar.
He was promising to take the company public in 18 months and reach $100 million in revenue, despite having no real product or team. He was just buying companies with no integration plan. He had a bodyguard at the office and would show up with supermodel girlfriends. All this happened after he had been arrested twice for assaulting two different women, both caught on camera."
