MrBeast's Late-Night Mentorship
Share
Ben Wilson shares a story about getting an unexpected late-night call from MrBeast after he followed him on Twitter.
"I was getting into bed with my wife when I looked at my phone and got a notification that MrBeast followed me. At first, I thought it was a fake account, but when I looked closer there was no underscore or anything wrong with it - it was verified, it was actually MrBeast.
Then I got a DM 2 minutes later. He said 'Hey I listened to your podcast, I think it's cool. I would love to chat sometime. I don't want anything from you, I just want to learn.'
I responded saying I'm free anytime next week. He immediately replied 'How about right now?' I was sitting there in my boxers in bed and said 'Yep, I am 100% ready to talk right now.'
Apparently he does this at night - he goes for walks and calls people who he thinks are interesting and tries to download their brains and learn anything he can. We talked for almost 2 and a half hours.
He was laying in bed and said 'Ben, tell me about my heroes.' We talked about a lot of things, including how to take my podcast to YouTube. At the end, he was asking me about what mistakes he should look out for based on historical figures. The parallels between him and Walt Disney were particularly interesting - I told him not to let anyone convince him he needs to be working on the reasonable thing, but to follow his unreasonable passions because somehow great things come out of that."
