Pudding Cup Miles Hack
Share
Sam Parr shares a story about someone who found a clever way to hack an airline miles promotion using pudding cups.
"There was this contest where if you pulled off the tops of pudding cups and licked it, it said how many airline miles you won. The promotion was giving 1,000 miles for every 10 labels. This guy did the math and figured out he only needed to buy $35,100 worth of pudding.
He bought a significant amount of pudding - it took up a huge amount of space. He peeled all the packs and was able to redeem them for 1.2 million airline miles. The pudding was $2 a piece, but he figured out he could buy them in bulk. He found this arbitrage where it became profitable to buy pudding just to get the miles.
The whole thing was supposed to be about promoting healthy eating - they were trying to say if you eat a lot of this pudding it's good for you, and they'd reward you with miles. This guy just found the loophole and exploited it perfectly."
