Nightingale's Farmer Story

Sam Parr shares a story about Earl Nightingale's encounter with a farmer who had a unique perspective on phone ownership.

"Earl Nightingale was around in the forties-fifties, he was a radio host and business-minded person, like the Tony Robbins of his day. He told a story about visiting a farmer's house right when phones were first created.

While Earl was at the farmer's house, the phone kept ringing and ringing. Earl was looking at the farmer, but the farmer just kept having a normal conversation. The phone stopped, then started ringing again. Finally, Earl said, 'Hey mister, your phone's been going off, aren't you gonna answer that?'

The farmer replied, 'Why would I answer that?' Earl said, 'Well, someone's calling you.' The farmer responded, 'Sir, I installed this phone in here for my convenience, not their convenience, and I don't feel like answering it.'

That's now my opinion towards my phone - it's here for me, not for anyone else."
