Dad's Business Dedication

Shaan shares a story about Ben's father who demonstrates extraordinary engagement with his children's interests and passions.

"Ben's dad does this amazing thing where whatever his kids are into, he gets fully into it too. Not just being supportive, but actually diving in completely. When Ben got into the Phoenix Suns, his dad became a huge Suns fan. Ben told me, 'No, it's the opposite - growing up my dad didn't really care about basketball or the Suns. I got super into it, and my dad just does this thing where whatever each of his kids is into, he's like 'alright, I'm into it too.''

For his other son who does real estate, his dad works for him for free, 40 hours a week, just helping him sell real estate. He's like a free employee hitting up LinkedIn. For another son who does comedy, he got into the comedy scene.

My dad was similar with adding fun elements to routine things. He would make Monday night dinner special - he'd get this tray where everyone had their own circular tray with four dishes in it, and he'd add a quarter. It was like the equivalent of a McDonald's happy meal but with a quarter. He'd always add some flourish, something extra. When he'd come home, I would steal his wallet and he'd chase me - turning a mundane moment into something fun that breaks everybody's mood."
