Suburban Garage Storage Network
Share
A concept to create a network of mini convenience stores in suburban neighborhoods by converting residential garages into small-scale distribution points, combining elements of cloud stores and the sharing economy.
Core Concept
- Turn residential garages into mini neighborhood corner stores
- Operate like a distributed 7-Eleven network within suburban communities
- Target neighborhoods with 100+ homes, especially gated communities
- Aim for under 10-minute delivery times
Operations
- Pay homeowners $500/month to convert part of their garage
- Stock with:
- Fridges and freezers
- Bulk wholesale goods
- Drinks and sodas
- Snacks and ice cream
- Basic convenience items
Delivery Model
- Two options:
- Self pickup from garage location
- Local delivery by neighborhood kids for $5 per delivery
- Focus on speed and convenience for suburban areas
- Target areas where traditional stores are 15-20 minutes round trip
Challenges Noted
- Sharing economy historically only works well for:
- Car rides (Uber)
- Home rentals (Airbnb)
- Main barrier: Convenience vs. compensation balance
- Two-sided marketplaces are notably difficult to execute successfully
