Harvard MBA's Egg Empire

A story about an unexpected Harvard MBA graduate who bought and scaled a business selling egg cartons.

"I found this fascinating business - egg cartons.com. It's just a website that sells packaging for eggs. Every form factor: the 12-pack, 24-pack, plastic ones, foam ones, environmentally friendly ones. It's a multimillion-dollar business wholesale selling packaging for eggs.

If you go to their website, it's just 'egg cartons.com' with a 1-800 number in the logo. When you see that phone number in the logo, you know this business prints cash because every grocery store and corner store in America has their number in their phone book.

What's interesting is when you look up the owner, you find Sarah Moore. Her LinkedIn says 'egg carton and packaging fanatic' and she's been doing this for 4 years. Before that, she went to Harvard Business School. She purchased it in 2017 after getting her MBA from Harvard, and now she has a private equity company that owns egg cartons.com, Fall Harvest Products (which serves the egg industry), and King Supply, which provides plumbing materials to campgrounds and parks.

She's like this model-looking Harvard grad who bought this business in her twenties from the previous owner - this guy who looks exactly like what you'd expect an egg carton salesman to look like, with his neck sideways on the phone, at his desk with 1970s World Series memorabilia."
