Uber Referral Arbitrage
Share
Sam Parr shares a story about finding a young Indian entrepreneur who figured out how to arbitrage Uber credits.
"We did this episode about this guy in India who had a website called Uber Pro. He was 23 years old or even younger. I gave him $1,000 and he gave me $10,000 in Uber credit. For years, I took Uber Black everywhere.
What he did was find Indian kids in his town who would take free Uber rides. When you rode Uber for the first time and referred people, you got $25 in free credit. He figured out how to get these kids to continually refer themselves. He also ranked high on Google for 'uber discount code' or 'uber promo code.'
He accumulated millions of dollars of Uber credit, and you could buy the credit from him for 10 or 20 cents on the dollar. To use it, you had to change your iPhone location from America to Moldova - your Uber account had to be in Moldova. That was the loophole.
He was making thousands of dollars a month, which was huge money for him - he said on the podcast he was previously making $30 a month. I've always wondered what happened to that kid. I've tried googling his name but can't find him anywhere online anymore."
