Huberman's TRT Journey

A story about Andrew Huberman's personal experience experimenting with TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy) for his research.

"I'm 46 years old and I didn't touch TRT until 45. I went 45 years using training, sleep, and supplements that can naturally increase testosterone. I decided to try TRT in a small dose spread throughout the week as an experiment for part of this book. At the time, my testosterone was already sitting in the high 800s, so I was doing fine.

It changes your mental frame - makes you more self-directed, more willing to lean into challenge. And counter to popular belief, it makes you calmer. This is the thing people don't realize - it gives you more energy but makes you calmer. In primates and humans, stressed angry people are typically the ones in the low to mid range of testosterone.

The main effect of testosterone is it makes effort feel good because of the way it creates a readiness for challenge of all kinds - intellectual challenges, physical challenges. With that extra energy, you can start exercising 4 times a week plus cardio, plus 4 times a week of weight training and recover with no problem, provided you're doing the other things you need to do."
