Meow Wolf's Multi-City Expansion
Share
Sam Parr shares the remarkable growth story of Meow Wolf, an immersive art experience company.
"Meow Wolf started in 2008 in Santa Fe. They would rent massive old warehouses and hire artists who typically don't make much money to create immersive art experiences - like a haunted house meets a museum meets Cirque du Soleil. Visitors pay $50 to walk through these exhibits.
They've raised about $250 million and projected that just one location will make close to $40 million a year in sales. They opened in Las Vegas in 2021 and already sold 500,000 tickets. Now they're expanding to Denver, Austin, and Los Angeles.
Their projections for the Austin location were $60 million in revenue with $30 million in profit. For marketing, they partner with local governments - like in Santa Fe, where the government funneled people to them and even put together an economic study showing Meow Wolf's positive impact on the local area.
It's just a crazy, crazy business - would you ever have thought that an immersive art experience could generate those kinds of numbers?"
