Jedi Midwit Framework
Share
A framework for approaching problems and decision-making by avoiding the overthinking "middle ground" and instead operating like either a beginner or master.
The Three Types of Thinking
-
Beginner/Dumb Approach
- Simplistic, straightforward solutions
- Takes direct action without overanalyzing
- Often leads to surprisingly good results
- Unencumbered by conventional wisdom
-
Midwit/Stressor Approach (To Avoid)
- Over-analyzes everything
- Type A personality, stressed
- Gets caught up in frameworks and complexity
- Makes simple things complicated
-
Jedi/Master Approach
- Returns to simplicity after mastery
- Focuses on fundamental principles
- Makes complex things simple
- Similar to beginner mindset but with wisdom
Real World Examples
-
Job Search
- Beginner/Jedi: Directly pursue desired position, ignore conventional approach
- Midwit: Apply to 500 jobs, optimize resume, follow all "best practices"
-
Business Growth
- Beginner/Jedi: "Just do Facebook ads until $500k/month"
- Midwit: Overthink marketing channels, create complex strategies
Key Principles
- Focus on one thing relentlessly
- Avoid overthinking and overcomplicating
- Think big but within reasonable bounds
- Add one zero to current goals
- Don't think beyond one zero at a time
Implementation
- Write simple reminders (e.g., sticky note saying "Facebook ads")
- Look for straightforward solutions first
- Question if you're overcomplicating things
- Aim for either beginner's mindset or master's wisdom
- Avoid getting stuck in the overthinking middle ground
