Sooey's First-Mover Advantage
Share
A story about how Sooey capitalized on Facebook's platform launch to achieve viral success.
"Sooey was working at Microsoft and decided to quit to start a company. He moves back home with his parents. In the first two weeks after quitting, Facebook announced at their developer conference that they were making Facebook Platform - allowing anyone to build apps on Facebook.
He went home and thought 'I don't know if this will be a business' but wanted to start programming again just to get the rust off. He built a Facebook app that was simple - it was a superlative app like 'which of your friends is most likely to end up in jail.'
The app went viral and ended up with tens of millions of users. This changed the trajectory of his life - Silicon Valley started calling him, Naval flew him out to San Francisco and wanted to invest in him. He took a bet on the platform the day it launched and it paid off massively."
