Social Media Creates Billionaires

A story about how Ishan's small social media interactions led to connecting with a billionaire investor.

"I needed people to know about this kick-ass investment I made, so I was talking to journalists but no one was really taking the time. There was one guy on Twitter who wasn't responding to anything else, so I just kept liking his posts without saying anything. Then he checked out my LinkedIn profile and we started talking. He was like 'okay, let me write about the story.'

It wasn't Forbes or anything - it was a pretty small news site. But what's weird is that they posted that article and a few days later, a billionaire read that article and reached out to me.

Later when we talk about some of the stuff I'm doing now, I've gotten all my opportunities through Twitter or LinkedIn or some email I've sent. Years later down the track, it's all come back to me. Just liking a post or replying to something - you don't know who's looking at it. When you post a tweet and it says 116 impressions with no likes, that's still some people who have looked at it. You don't know who it is, but later down the line that could come in handy."
