CNN's Gulf War Profits

Sam Parr shares how CNN achieved its breakthrough moment during the Gulf War.

"One of my heroes is Ted Turner - he's on my wall. He started CNN in 1981, but it was kind of a failure and lost a lot of money until 1989-1990 when Iraq invaded Kuwait.

He sent over a bunch of news reporters, and it was one of the first times that a news reporter could, because of technology, film something and have it aired live. It was one of the first wars viewed live, and it changed people's sentiment of the war. It made CNN a huge company that year.

That's kind of what's going to happen now, except instead of a publisher, it's going to be Facebook and Twitter - they're just going to crush it for the next couple years because we're glued to it."
