Protein Powder Manufacturing Failure

Rich Roll shares a story about an early failed business venture in the supplement space.
"Early on in this process we launched a couple supplements like a protein powder. I thought maybe nutraceuticals might be something I would be interested in doing. It was modestly successful, but I realized it was a very crowded marketplace and there were people who were doing really good work in that area.
I was more interested in the media and if I was not at the manufacturing location overseeing all of this and being detail oriented around it, there was too much risk of shenanigans because I was not in control of the manufacturing process. There's a lot of weird stuff that goes on in that world when you're licensing these labs to create something for you.
It felt like my risk exposure was too high and I realized I didn't want to unless I was gonna go all in on that. So we abandoned that. We have other things - we sell some swag and t-shirts on the website. They don't do fantastic but it's nice to have them there. Not everything is a huge smash success, but sometimes some of these smaller verticals still make sense nonetheless."
