Sam shares a story about discovering a highly profitable VPN review website through research tools.
"I found this amazing website that was reviewing VPNs. Using SimilarWeb, I saw they had about 12 million visitors to their site. The company had 'Ltd' in their name, so I went straight to Companies House to see their revenue.
The revenue was around £18 million and their profit was about £16 million. This told me three important things: First, there's huge demand for VPN reviews, which shocked me - I didn't realize that market was that big. Second, it showed me that the affiliate business model was super fascinating - they made money by writing reviews and getting a cutback when someone bought a VPN. Third, I learned they were the leader in the space.
This opened my mind to different business models and niches. I thought to myself, 'I wonder if I could do this for payroll software? I bet I could get big affiliate fees with that.' I never ended up doing it because I wasn't passionate about it, but it was a fascinating discovery."
