Robertson's Three-Secretary System

A story about visiting legendary investor Julian Robertson's office and discovering his unique operational setup.

"We walk in and he's had the same office for a number of years. He had 3 secretaries, which I thought was just baller. They all sat outside his office and each had different responsibilities.

About halfway through our conversation, all of a sudden you could see the proverbial light bulb go off in his head. He just sits back in his couch, looks up at the ceiling, and starts talking to the ceiling. I remember being like 'damn, am I boring him? Did I lose him?'

But he had a microphone in the ceiling and a speaker so he could talk directly out to the 3 assistants. He basically just started asking like 'hey send so and so in here, go find this.' I was like, this guy built like Jarvis in his office way before anyone else had this. He is absolutely a legend."
