The Four Types of Executive Communications
- FYI Updates
- Simply informing about decisions already made
- No approval needed, just keeping executives in the loop
- Format: "Here's my decision, FYI"
- Approval Requests
- Used for risky or expensive decisions
- Seeking explicit permission before proceeding
- Format: "Here's what I think we should do, do I have your approval?"
- Help Requests
- When you're stuck and need guidance
- Acknowledging uncertainty and seeking input
- Format: "I don't know what to do, could you help me?"
- Progress Updates
- Following up on previous discussions
- Providing status reports on ongoing initiatives
- Format: "Last time we talked about X, here's where we're at now"
