Castro AIDS Audio Tour

Sam Parr shares a story about using Detour, a location-based audio tour app, in San Francisco's Castro district.

"I did one where I went to the Castro and it was all about the AIDS epidemic. You got to know Harvey Milk, the gay activist that was murdered during the eighties when the AIDS crisis was going on.

The narrator was talking and he said 'Now this is the last time that I hugged Harvey before he died.' Then he's like 'Now this house up here, these guys lived here, and on top these guys lived here - they all died.' It was so emotionally powerful."

The story demonstrates how location-based audio tours could create deeply moving experiences by connecting historical events to physical places.
