DEA Agent Turns Criminal
Share
A story about how a federal DEA agent named Karl Force became corrupted while investigating Silk Road.
"One guy who did it, Karl Force, got sentenced to 76 months - about 6 years. You can read his chats and he basically fell in love with Ross and this idea. He would say things like 'Dude you're gonna get arrested, I'm gonna get fired from this, I'm gonna go to jail for this.'
At first he wanted to make money, but because this was such a romantic idea of overthrowing the government and the little guys winning, they all bonded together. His username on Silk Road was 'knob' and he initially did it just for fun and to learn. But then he got into it - I think it was a combination of greed (he eventually stole from people) but also they just got caught up in the intoxication of it all. When you're building something online, it feels like there's no consequences, like it's just fake."
