Twitter Growth Unlocks Opportunities

A story about how Sahil Bloom went from being a private equity worker to building a large Twitter following during COVID, which transformed his career.
"I was doing private equity which was like 80 to 100 hour weeks. You don't really have time to look up or think about anything because you're just working and making more money. During COVID, for the first time in my professional life, I had time to actually think about other stuff.
I started writing on Twitter. I never thought of it as a potential way to make money or get another job. But as it started to grow and spiral, I got to about 75,000 followers. I started seeing friends from the tech world and how they were leveraging platforms like Twitter to make money.
I wondered if there was a way I could build a side hustle with this - whether it was courses or an agency business. I was at a real crossroads and thought I was going to just go join another type of investing firm. We were going to move back to the east coast to be closer to family.
I had a conversation with Sean that was really impactful. He said to me, 'It sounds like you're just gonna go do the thing that kind of sounds like it sucks instead of doing the thing that you actually get a lot of energy from.' Until someone reframed it for me like that, I had never thought about it. I was just gonna continue down the path that felt safe.
Now I've got a $10 million venture fund, a newsletter with 125,000 subscribers making $3,500-$6,000 per send, and an agency business doing close to six figures a month in revenue. I never would have been able to raise a fund as a nobody VP in private equity."
