Speedtest.net's $200M Revenue

Sam Parr shares insights about the surprisingly profitable business of Speedtest.net, owned by Ziff Davis.
"Let me tell you about Speedtest. According to SimilarWeb, it gets 100 million visits a month. If you go to their website and click 'advertise' at the bottom, it shows they get 10 million visits a day and 40-50 million monthly uniques.
The website is surrounded by ads - there's 5 ads on the page. At a CPM of $10-15 because it's a relatively high-end market, that's about $50 million a year just from ads. Plus, they sell enterprise solutions through their developers section.
This simple webpage could be a $200 million a year business. I looked up some websites that estimate URL value, and they say this URL is worth $1 billion. They also just acquired a company they want to integrate for mobile testing.
What's interesting is they get free customers because whenever someone calls Comcast or their internet provider for troubleshooting, they get sent to Speedtest.net. So they're not even paying for customer acquisition."
