Yes Theory YouTube Origins

Sam Parr shares how the popular YouTube channel "Yes Theory" got its start through Elizabeth Murdoch's media company.

"The week The Hustle launched, I got a call from Elizabeth Murdoch. She goes 'Hi this is Elizabeth Murdoch' and I knew right away who that was - Rupert's daughter, the owner of Fox. She saw my blog post and thought what I was doing was cool.

She had launched this company called Vertical Networks and negotiated a deal with Snapchat to make content for them. She wanted to fund me to make content, but I turned it down because I didn't want to move and had a girlfriend.

So they found someone else - these 3 guys who started Yes Theory. Their whole idea was doing crazy things - they'd meet someone on the streets of Venice, this cute girl, and be like 'Hey do you want to go to Rome right now?' Or they'd get in an Uber and say 'Hey Uber driver, do you want to go to Hawaii this second? We'll go and just leave your car there, we'll pay for everything.'

They started with simple things like skydiving and bucket lists, then escalated to going to the most remote places on Earth for 24 hours or living on islands with people who had never seen white people before. That's how Yes Theory began - as one of these Snapchat shows funded by Elizabeth Murdoch's company."
