Product Hunt's Surprising Success
Share
Sam shares how he misjudged Ryan Hoover's Product Hunt before it became a huge success.
"I was with Ryan the night before he launched Product Hunt and I thought it was a horrible idea. I was like, 'A social network for products? It sounds so lame.' And he launched it and he totally proved me wrong.
Not only that, a few weeks before that he'd been interviewing at our company. I wanted to hire him. It didn't end up working out. He launches, he tells me he's launching Product Hunt. After it launches, I call him two weeks later and I was like, 'Hey, you know I don't know how you're feeling about that whole thing, but I got this new idea for a role.' I tried to recruit him again and he was like, 'No, I think I'm gonna see this thing out.' And then it exploded and became the coolest thing in Silicon Valley for like two years."
