Ryan Cohen's Investment Returns
Share
A story about Ryan Cohen, a young entrepreneur who built and sold Chewy.com, then made several successful large-scale investments.
"There's this guy named Ryan Cohen who started Chewy.com, which is Amazon for pet stuff, when he was in his early twenties. He was aggressive when he started it - raised a ton of money, started out of Florida. He was very much an individual thinker, saying 'No, we're not doing Silicon Valley, we're going to do this out of Florida.'
He raised about $1 billion, ended up selling it for several billion. After that, he made around $600 million and put pretty much all of his money into 2 stocks: Apple and Wells Fargo. Since that article went live, his money has gone up 361%.
Then about a year and a half ago, he noticed a brand he loved wasn't doing well - GameStop. He thought 'these guys can totally revolutionize the game, but they're getting crushed right now.' He bought 10% of the company for $76 million. When he bought GameStop, that's when this whole meme stock thing went down. He actually turned the company around, or at least it's in the process, and his $76 million turned into $1.1 billion. He currently owns about 13% of the company and is on their board of directors.
Just this morning, it was announced that he bought 10% of Bed Bath & Beyond. The crazy thing is, I'm almost positive he's still only 34-35 years old, and it's just him - maybe he has an assistant, but it's just him searching around for stuff."
