Hampton's Selective Scaling
Share
Sam shares how he builds and maintains quality in Hampton, his exclusive CEO community.
"We have this company called Hampton - it's joinhampton.com. It's for CEOs who have at least a million in revenue. You apply, we interview you, and if accepted, we put you in a group of 8 founders who have similar size and types of businesses. You meet monthly, we host events and retreats, and we have a digital community where you can talk to all the other members.
We currently have 100 members, soon to be 1,000. We create FOMO not even on purpose - we interview everyone and turn down most people. There needs to be a barrier to entry for building a good community.
We also create intimacy by having multiple communities within the community. Around 250-500 people, things get wonky in terms of not being able to know everyone, so you need to keep things intimate. We set norms and standards - at Hampton, we want you to brag about who you are. In most settings it's tacky to talk about your company's revenue and profits, but in this community we set different norms because it helps people learn from each other."
