Tinder Swindler Scam
Share
A story about a sophisticated dating app con artist who scammed multiple women, as told by Shaan Puri from the Netflix documentary "Tinder Swindler."
"There's this guy who goes on Tinder with a profile showing him living a cool lifestyle - lots of travel, nice clothes. He would match with women and start dating them. His backstory was that he's the son of a billionaire who owns a diamond company, which you could actually verify on Google.
After a month of dating, he'd create this elaborate story about being in danger. He'd send a picture claiming his bodyguard got attacked, saying he couldn't use his credit cards because enemies were tracking him. He'd ask to borrow their credit cards temporarily, convincing them to raise their credit limits for his 'business meetings.'
These women would end up $150-200,000 in debt. He'd tell them his enemies were after him and convince them to take out quick loans. It was basically a Ponzi scheme - he'd use one woman's money to fund his lifestyle and date the next woman, running this scheme on multiple women simultaneously.
He was actually flying private jets and living this extravagant lifestyle using their money. The documentary estimates he conned women out of millions of dollars over time. The numbers don't quite add up though - he must have been running this on many women at once because the private jets and lifestyle would burn through money quickly."
