American Pickers Revenue Success
Share
Sam shares a story about his experience working at the American Pickers store.
"Years ago, I worked at the store featured on the TV show American Pickers. The show was about two guys who would drive around the South, knock on old people's homes and say, 'Can I come and look in your barn?' They would find old cool stuff, tell the story of it, clean it up just a little bit, bring it back to our store, and we would resell it.
We would have lines out the door because at the time, this show was huge - David Letterman was number one and American Pickers was number two in terms of the most watched shows on TV. There'd be days where we would sell, I'm not exaggerating, a hundred thousand dollars in American Pickers t-shirts because all these guys would come in and want to buy anything that was American Pickers related.
The store probably did about $10 million in revenue from just one location. The funny thing is, it was so small that we had a script to tell people when they came in because they would be so disappointed at how small it was. They would think it was huge because the cameras would make it look big, but it was just a tidy store. Despite its size, we absolutely killed it."
