Faked College For YouTube

A story about how MrBeast (Jimmy) had to lie to his risk-averse mother about attending college while pursuing his YouTube dreams.

"We didn't have money to go to a real college, just a free community college. My mom grew up traditionally - military, worked her whole life. In 2008, she lost everything when real estate collapsed. We went bankrupt, so she became very paranoid and just wanted her kid to get a job and not mess up.

It was a constant struggle because I'm saying 'I'm gonna be a YouTuber or homeless' and she'd say 'but then you could be homeless.' To her, if I didn't get a college degree, I was a failure. She told me either go to college or get out of the house. I didn't have enough money to move out, so I agreed to go since the community college was cheap.

I flat out lied to her. I went just to see what it was like for about a week - it was horrible, so boring. The teacher was just reading out of the book. When I complained to others, they said 'that's what education is, stop complaining.'

So I gave myself a six-month clock to make enough money to move out, because once my mom found out I wasn't really attending, she would kick me out. I knew I had to leave anyway because it would make her depressed and very sad."
