SF Housing Sparks Business

Sam Parr shares how his first online business idea came from seeing the overwhelming number of apartment applications in San Francisco.

"Our first business that was an online company came from this insight: In San Francisco, an open bedroom for $1,200 a month in a 3-bedroom house would get like 500 applicants. All 500 are interested in living in the same neighborhood, they're all interested in this ad, so they clearly have similar interests.

We thought: we should just group them into their own thing and move them into their own apartment. That was the premise of my first company."

In 2016, he founded The Hustle, a business news media company that started in his kitchen with just $12 and grew to eight figures in revenue.

Sam remains the host of the popular business podcast, My First Million, and continues to start and sell companies. He also co-founded Hampton, a highly vetted community for entrepreneurs, founders, and CEOs, and teaches people to write better through his platform, Copy That.
