Ford's Charcoal Innovation

A story about how Ford Motor Company turned their waste wood from car manufacturing into Kingsford Charcoal.

"Ford was making car frames and they had to burn a lot of wood in order to bend the steel or do whatever they had to do. They had all this leftover charred wood and they're like 'what do we do with this?'

I think it was Henry Ford's idea - I forget exactly whose idea - but he goes 'hey, let's start selling this, let's make something out of this.' And that's where Kingsford Charcoal came from.

There's a bunch of entrepreneurs that have done things like this. Standard Oil did something similar where they had this off-put of kerosene that was like this weird greasy fluid and they figured out how to use that too. There's stories like that with Standard Oil as well."
