Three-Tier Adventure Framework
Share
Jesse Itzler shares a three-tier framework for building an adventure-rich life that combines big challenges, regular mini-adventures, and habit building.
1. Annual Misogi Challenge
- One big, year-defining challenge annually
- Should be something that excites and scares you
- Break big challenges into digestible pieces
- Example: Breaking ultraman race into buoy-to-buoy segments
- Example: Breaking business goals into smaller actionable steps
- Doesn't need to be physical (can be learning, spiritual, etc.)
2. Kevin's Rule (Mini Adventures)
- Take one day every 8 weeks for something non-routine
- Results in 6 mini-adventures per year
- Focus on breaking normal patterns
- Examples:
- Skip watching sports to go fishing
- Visit college friends
- Take unexpected trips
- Mathematical Impact:
- 50 years × 6 adventures = 300 mini adventures in lifetime
- Combines with 50 year-defining things (Misogi)
3. Quarterly Habit Building
- Add one winning habit each quarter
- Focus on simple, achievable changes
- Examples:
- Drinking 100oz of water daily
- Never being late to meetings
- 10-minute daily meditation
- Morning stretching routine
Implementation Strategy
- Write everything down on physical calendar
- Schedule key events first:
- Family commitments
- School dates
- Quarterly trips
- Weekly date nights
- Block time before others can claim it
- Use calendar as permission to say "no" to conflicting requests
Philosophy Behind Framework
- Be intentional with time
- Play "offense" with your calendar
- Focus on different types of wealth:
- Time wealth
- Spiritual wealth
- Social wealth
- Goal: Create an "insane life" through consistent adventure and growth
