Altman's Survival Preparations

A story about Sam Altman's prescient pandemic preparation, as described in a 2016 New Yorker article.

"In 2016, they asked Sam Altman what his hobbies are and what he does when he's not working. He said 'I like racing cars, I like renting planes and flying them. Oh, and I've got one odd thing - I like to prep for survival.'

Seeing their bewilderment, he explained: 'The problem is when my friends get drunk they talk about ways the world will end. After a Dutch lab modified H5N1 bird flu viruses 5 years ago making it super contagious, the chance of a lethal virus being released in the next 20 years will become non-zero.'

So he had a plot of land in Big Sur that he could fly to. He had antibiotics, batteries, water, and gas masks made by Israel Defense Force all ready to go. This was in 2016."
