Crossword Domain Holdout
Share
A story about a peculiar website owner who refuses to sell or monetize their valuable domain name.
"I went to crosswordpuzzle.com and it's basically a white page with a bunch of text. At the very bottom it says 'This domain is not for sale. Please do not inquire about purchasing it. All emails from anonymous or unknown companies asking me a price will be ignored.' Last updated July 2007.
I emailed this guy and said 'Hey, saw your website. I think it's awesome that you're not trying to sell this, but I'm curious - why aren't you trying to sell this? What's your thought process?'
It's particularly interesting because the New York Times makes $90 million in subscription revenue from crossword puzzles, yet this person refuses to monetize or sell their domain. They've maintained this stance since 2007, ignoring all purchase inquiries."
