Pilot License Health Decisions

Bryan Johnson shares an analogy about why amateur decision-making in health is similar to amateur pilots' high error rates.

"I got my pilot's license several years ago and in assessing the risk of death, one stat stood out to me: over 70% of incidents in aviation were attributable to amateur pilots. While I went through certification for every plane I flew and was typewritten in every plane, I refused to fly alone because I knew the risk of error was just there in the math and stats.

The same is true with health and wellness. I tried to do this on my own, going around with this little bag listening to podcasts, reading books and literature, trying to piece together my own protocol. It's the same as trying to fly an airplane by myself - even though I study it and get typed in it, my error rate is just going to be very high.

This is why I don't believe in trying to piece together health advice on your own. The value isn't in debating if a vegan diet is better than a carnivore diet. What matters is having an engineered solution that solves this from a system perspective, backed by data."
