Ligma Twitter Prank

A story about how someone pulled off an elaborate prank pretending to be fired Twitter employees, fooling major media outlets.

"So Elon takes over Twitter, and there's all these reporters outside Twitter's office waiting for something to go wrong. The first big story that happens is there's a picture of these two guys, kind of nerdy-looking engineering guys, holding giant cardboard boxes. The media reported 'these two data scientists were fired today from Twitter, here they're seen walking out with their possessions.'

Something looked a little off because the guy looked so goofy. Then I read the name and it says 'Rahul Ligma and Daniel Johnson.' It was a ligma joke - where someone says 'ligma' and when you ask what's ligma, they say 'ligma nuts.'

We got the exclusive behind-the-scenes story. Somebody in our group chat knows this guy. Before he did it, he sent a text message saying: 'Yo bro, are you doing anything in the next hour? Wanna help me pull off a stunt? I'm at the gym and I need a box. I'm gonna walk out in front of the Twitter office with a box in my hand, there's hella TV crews outside.'

He literally put 5 minutes of planning into this. He got an empty box and a Michelle Obama book, there's nothing else in the box. The media went for it. He later texted 'The media is so dumb - even my uncle in India has seen the picture now.'

The other guy Daniel Johnson also had a funny moment in his interview. When asked how he felt, he said 'I just gotta go home and talk to my husband and wife and regroup' - the most San Francisco thing ever to happen."
