Properties Build Networks

A story about how successful investors and entrepreneurs use destination properties outside major cities as a strategic advantage for building relationships and doing deals.
"There's this recurring theme of people I look up to. Chris Sacca, this Israeli guy named Aviv Nevo (Vivi), and UFC fighter Cowboy Cerrone - they all have locations outside of major cities.
Cowboy Cerrone has a place in Denver, Vivi has a place right outside of LA, and Chris Sacca had a place in Tahoe, 3 hours outside of San Francisco. Their competitive advantage in getting interesting deals is they have these interesting places that aren't necessarily expensive.
Sacca would get founders to come out to his place, saying 'Hey, I have this cabin out in the woods, want to come chill and hang out?' He shows them around, gives them an amazing experience, and that's how they end up investing in different deals.
I think that strategy is amazing - having a place to live a bit on the outskirts where everyone comes to you on your terms. You're the boss, they get to know you. For example, Sacca had the founder of Instagram early on stay at his Tahoe cabin for a few weeks. With Travis Kalanick from Uber, they spent 3 days together, sitting in the hot tub jamming on ideas. After 3 days with somebody, you really trust that person - it's so different than a meeting or a Zoom call."
