Mormon Mission Conversion Rate

Ben Wilson shares his experience as a Mormon missionary in El Paso, Texas, where he went door-to-door converting people to the Mormon faith.

"I converted 32 people on my mission over 2 years. We knocked on hundreds of doors a day, easily 100 doors every single day for 2 years in El Paso, Texas, speaking Spanish.

The pitch would start with 'We're missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.' We'd ask them questions like 'Do you believe in God? Are you someone who believes in God?' Then we'd relate to them about their faith.

Then we'd say 'Our message is that you believe in Jesus Christ, we also believe in Jesus Christ. What we believe is that the same Christ, the same church that Christ established when he was on the earth 2,000 years ago was lost for a time and no one had the complete truth. But it's been restored again, that exact same church. That's why we're out here trying to talk to people. If you knew that was true, that Christ's church was back on the earth, the same one that he established, is that something that would be interesting to you?'

During the mission, I could only write my family an email once a week and call home on Christmas and Mother's Day. El Paso was very transitory - a lot of people just got there from Mexico. They weren't really going to their church anymore, so they were more open to something new since their life was already changing."
