Pandora Speaker Strategy

A story about how Sam Parr used clever tactics to land his first big speaker for his event.

"I convinced the founder of Pandora, Tim Westergren, to speak and he was one of the first people I had. The truth is, I kind of lied about who else was coming. I said all these other people were coming to speak - none of them had actually committed.

But once Tim said yes, then I went to all those other people and told them Tim was coming, and they said yes. It was way easier to land bigger name speakers because I got the whale first.

I've published these cold emails I sent to speakers on my blog. And I don't want to hear this nonsense about 'you already knew everyone.' No - I know everyone because I hosted these events. That's why I have a huge network, not because I had them before I started this event."

In 2016, he founded The Hustle, a business news media company that started in his kitchen with just $12 and grew to eight figures in revenue.

After four successful years, he sold The Hustle to HubSpot, a publicly traded company. Now operating as HubSpot Media, The Hustle reaches 3 million readers daily, employs a team of nearly 100, and has been the launchpad for dozens of its staff to found their own media companies and newsletters.

Sam remains the host of the popular business podcast, My First Million, and continues to start and sell companies. He also co-founded Hampton, a highly vetted community for entrepreneurs, founders, and CEOs, and teaches people to write better through his platform, Copy That.
