Immigrant Mother's Persistence

Shaan shares a story about how his mother, who couldn't speak English, managed to get her first job in America through pure determination.

"Two weeks after arriving in America, my mom had a job as a waitress - someone who had never even been to a restaurant before. She couldn't speak English, and my brother was like 'How did you get a job?'

She said 'I don't know, you said we needed a job, so I just kept going to different places every hour. I just went to a different place to interview until this one liked me and gave me the job.'

She would go at 4 in the morning before school to help clean, then go back at night. That's what she did. She just figured it out because she had to - there was no safety net, no backup plan. She just kept trying until someone said yes."
