Theater Investment Becomes Empire

A story about how Tyler Perry built his early success through theater, starting with just $12,000 and one play.
"Tyler Perry saved up $12,000 to rent an Atlanta community theater. He wrote a play called 'I Know I've Been Changed' and started running it. It wasn't an overnight success - it was really bad at first and he struggled to pay rent. He worked on this play for over a decade, doing everything himself - he produced the play, sold the tickets, designed the set, sold the snacks - because no one else would invest in him.
Over that decade, the play got better as he refined his craft. Throughout that period, he ended up selling over $100 million in theater tickets, $20 million in merchandise, and $30 million in videos of the plays. He started at a small Atlanta community theatre and eventually made it to the acclaimed Fox Theater.
The key was that he owned the IP, so he could actually make money from all aspects of the business. This was just the beginning - he went on to leverage this success into movies, TV shows, and eventually his own production studio."
