Three-Group Learning Framework
Share
A framework for learning from three distinct groups of people to maximize knowledge acquisition and growth.
The Three Groups to Learn From
- Veterans/Mentors - People who have done it multiple times before
- Peers - People currently alongside you in the game
- Newcomers - Fresh people just starting out who don't know any better
Key Principles
- Need to ask different questions to each group
- Must be humble enough to learn from all three levels
- Can't use same approach for all groups
- Need to know how to extract valuable information from each type
How to Approach Each Group
Veterans/Mentors
- Ask specific questions about their experience
- Focus on learning from their past successes/failures
- Get strategic high-level insights
- Learn from their pattern recognition
Peers
- Share current challenges and solutions
- Learn together through mutual experience
- Compare notes on what's working/not working
- Build relationships through shared struggles
Newcomers
- Fresh perspective without industry assumptions
- New approaches not limited by "how things are done"
- Creative solutions from lack of constraints
- Energy and innovative thinking
Implementation Tips
- Spend dedicated time with each group
- Tailor questions specifically for each level
- Be humble enough to learn from all three
- Extract different types of value from each group
- Recognize that each group provides unique insights
The framework emphasizes that learning happens at all levels, but you must approach each group differently to maximize value.
