Proactive Ukrainian Accountant

Shaan shares a story about finding an exceptional Ukrainian accountant who took a proactive approach to tax strategy.

"I had this Ukrainian woman who was an amazing accountant. She was the first accountant I talked to that felt like they worked for me and not just like a narc.

She would say things like 'Have you thought about this? Does your business need a vehicle? Because right now if you just bought a vehicle in the last week of the year, we can depreciate that and use that against your books.'

She was giving me ideas that were completely legal, but she wasn't just sitting there saying 'If you give me all your paperwork and receipts, I'll file your taxes for you.' She was the first person who said 'Wow, you're paying a lot in taxes over here and over here, let me make sure I'm saving you money.'

I was going to talk to her about starting her own firm. I would tell her 'Hey, should you do this? Do you want to leave and start your own firm? I'm sure you're scared of all that, but you're just going to do the things you're really good at - doing people's tax strategy and accounting - and I will get you all the clients.'"
