A story about how Shaan Puri leveraged his podcast audience to create a successful rolling fund.
"I started a rolling fund largely off of the audience from this podcast. The audience said 'Hey, I've listened to this guy a bunch, I trust him, he has a good track record.' And now that rolling fund is $4 million a year that I get to invest into startups. That's more value than all of the ad revenue that we had before.
I think more people should figure out business models that are different from the content that they're creating. I'm surprised more podcasts don't have different business models."
The fund grew quickly - Sam noted "you turned your fund on and it was $4 million in a matter of months." Shaan ran this as a paid community with only 7% monthly churn, and when including growth, the net churn was around 1% (adding 6% while losing 7% monthly).
