Scooter Braun's Billion-Dollar Rise
Share
A story about how Scooter Braun built his business from managing Justin Bieber to creating a billion-dollar media company.
"Everyone knows the story probably that he met Justin or found Justin on YouTube when he was really young, reached out, and the rest is kind of history. He ended up building a music management company where the cash cow of that business was more touring with Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, and some others.
He sold it [Ithaca Holdings] to HYBE about a year ago or 18 months ago for $1 billion. They started buying other management companies, buying music catalogs, doing a lot of different things. He and Justin built some clothing businesses, and there were other auxiliary businesses that came out of Ithaca. They also did a lot of venture investing.
The management company was really the means to the end to build something much bigger. That's how we've thought about it - management is the core of our business, but it really allows us to have a wedge that gets us into everything else."
