Small Projects Reveal Talent
Share
Noah shares a story about how he discovered and hired a talented developer named Garrett through a small initial project.
"Garrett's the lead developer on SendFox. He built a WordPress plugin that I bought for like $100 about 6-7 years ago. Then I said 'Hey, can I pay you like 25-30 dollars an hour to fix it?' He was so impressive and did it for a year.
I told Chad, my business friend, 'Dude this guy is fucking fire.' I said we just need to hire him full time, let him do whatever he wants, and pay him whatever he wants. That's pretty much what we've done now - he works in SendFox and his output is remarkable.
I think ultimately you want to find people that blow you away, people who want to run their own businesses. You want to give them a challenging goal and some boundaries, then leave them alone. That's the simplest and most complicated thing to do."
